- A career selection survey was distributed to four individuals and
received a 100 percent respond rate. The information from the surveys
has been analyzed and the results prepared for review. The survey was
distributed to individuals in various fields of employment to gain an
unbiased and unaffiliated test group. The respondents were asked
questions to determine what effect education had on his or her career
choice.

- When asked about education 100 percent of the individuals surveyed
said they completed some undergraduate college work, 25 percent received
a degree. However, only 50 percent are currently working in the
career field of their choice. The following illustration shows the
responses given when asked about his or her education received and
career choice.

- 50 percent of respondents indicate that information systems and
technology was their primary field of study. Communications or
marketing and education were divided between the remaining 50 percent.
The survey indicated that only 25 percent started working in a career
related to their field of study.

- When asked how he or she selected their career choice, three out of 4
had both a strong interest in the field and the career was suggested by
a friend, half knew someone in their career choice and quarter showed
salary and benefits as motivation. Of those not currently in their
career choice, all indicated that additional education is required.
The survey indicates that 50 percent of respondents work full time and
50 percent work part time. Half have been in their current position
for seven to twelve months, a quarter for one to two years and the
remainder for three to five years.
